The Importance of “Me Time”

That time of the year has rolled around once again: college is back in session after a long and much needed winter break. A whole, glorious month of relaxing, eating and sleeping until noon has come to a bitter end. Semesters are beginning and bank accounts are draining from the purchases of textbooks and tuition and expensive pens that make you feel like you have it all together. That’s right ladies and gents… it is time to get back on a schedule… which gives so many students as well as anyone the opportunity for a new beginning. Why? Because with a schedule you can find those little, precious moments of free time to utilize and focus on what you enjoy as well as you. Still freshly in January of 2018, you have the opportunity to shape the rest of the year through new habits. With new habits, comes the new you.

No matter who you are or where you come from, everybody needs a little “me time” nudged into their life; no matter how busy their schedule is.

I’ll use myself as an example. I want to blog and make videos and create content that will change lives and inspire people. However, I am a full time student with minimal time for myself. Usually at the end of a long day of lectures, note taking and homework, the last thing I want to do is sit down at the same computer I have been staring at all day and make my brain churn more. Normally, I would only do this at the end of the day which only made me stress more and steal away that valuable time for myself. So, I am going to make a schedule and find little slots of time in my day to where I can be able to write and create content for you guys, instead of using my “me time” at the end of the day.

“Me time” is any time during the day (or, if you’re like me, at the end of the day) to recuperate from the craziness of that day and get ready for the next. Me? I enjoy eucalyptus bubble baths and Yankee candles to wind down. I also love going through my nightly routine of washing my face (if you don’t wash your face at night, try to start because it is so therapeutic), applying toner, rosewater, moisturizer… and you get the idea. I like taking care of myself and my body so I know I can function at my best for the day so that is part of my “me time”.

It is up to you to figure out what makes you feel relaxed, not only in your body but also in your mind and soul. It is so important because if you don’t take some time for yourself, your life could start to fall through the cracks. You are your priority. Your day and what happens within it are all products of you. How well you take care of yourself (body & mind) will reflect of your actions.

We all want to live our best lives, right? Let’s start this year. Let’s start now. Take some time for yourself today, at the end of the day, or whenever you have that precious moment. Maybe read that magazine or book you’ve been dying to get your hands on. Maybe take a bubble bath or cook that delicious meal you’ve seen on Pinterest so many times.

Hang up the phone, close the computer, because 2018 is for the new you.
